Dr. Charlie Lee joined Vela Diagnostics in 2012 as Bioinformatics Scientist, rising to the post of Director of Bioinformatics and Software overseeing software and analysis pipeline development for both qPCR and Next-Generation Sequencing platforms. He designed the primers for >30 CE-IVD qPCR assays, as well as HCV and HIV genotyping NGS assays.
Dr. Lee spent over 9 years with the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), A*STAR, developing bioinformatics algorithms and tools for various fields of biological research. He has >30 publications in the fields of motif discovery, virology, oncology, metagenomics, microarrays and next-generation-sequencing. While in GIS, he co-founded PathGEN Dx where he led the research and development of a pan-pathogen diagnostic microarray assay. He was also with Human Longevity Inc. developing analysis pipelines for oncology, microbiome and blood genotyping.
As Head of R&D at Vela Research in Singapore, Dr. Lee is responsible for assay development, engineering, software, biostatistics and bioinformatics. He is also a Director at Vela Genomics.
Dr. Lee obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore, where he was awarded the prestigious Dean’s Graduate Award for his significant research achievements during his PhD study.
